“Target” Help

This page was created with the intention of walking you through creating your first radio station.

To access the programming “target” page, click on the create.radio button on the top of every play.it page. This will open a blank target prompting you to enter your station’s name:

Keep in mind that if you have already created a station, clicking the create.radio button will take you to the “Manage My Stations” page…

Enter the name of any artist, album, song or genre in the search field on the top-left of the page. When the item’s icon appears, simply click and drag the icon to your target.

Continue searching for the music you like. You can put as many (or as few) items on your target as you like. Keep in mind that the less you ‘program’ the more recommendations you will hear…

Notice the “Recommendations” section to right of the target? This will display artists associated with the highlighted icon on your target. If there is a recommended artist that you do not want to hear, you can BAN that artist from your station.

Locate the properties to the top-right of the target, and you will see options to ban an artist (you must drag the artist’s icon to your target, then check the “Don’t Play” option) or to suppress the artist’s influence on your station (simply checking “Suppress Influence” will play the artist, but not the recommendations).

If you notice that you are populating your target with similar artists, you can create folders to help make your target more organized. Click and drag the folder icon to your target, and drag your music selection into it. Using folders offers you more options in programming the station you’ve always wanted to hear!

Top navigation

Home will always take you to the top-most level of your station. Select a folder and press the > button to view contents. When inside of a folder, click the < button to return to the previous level.

This station will play Female Vocalists heavily, occasionally including songs by The Police and NEVER playing The Go-Go’s.

Continue adding folders and artists until you feel your station is complete. You can ‘Save as Draft’ or ‘Publish’ your Station any time and as often as you like. If you make a mistake that can’t be recovered, simply use the Abandon Changes button (on the bottom left) to return your Station to it’s last saved point.

Edit Your Station

After creating your station, you can edit certain elements of how it is published.

Clicking on the create.radio link again takes you to a page displaying your stations. It contains your Station Image, URL, Name, Tag Line & Description. Additionally, you can invite collaborators to help you create your station.

  • To return to the target page, click on ‘Program Live Version’.
  • To listen to your station in the play.it player, click the Play button.
  • To edit your Station Profile, select ‘Edit Station Properties’.
